About the course
This two-day course designed for high school Biology and Earth Science teachers, provides a clear, practical roadmap for Regents-aligned instruction. Gain a strong understanding of the NY State Science Learning Standards, required investigations, and what effective “3D” classrooms should look like in practice.
Through real examples and guided exploration of NYSED resources, participants will learn how to align standards, instruction, and assessment to better prepare students for success on the new Regents exams.

About the presenter
Chrissy Scales is a Staff Development Specialist at CiTi BOCES and an Education Specialist for the New York State Department of Education (NYSED), specializing in pedagogy across the PreK–12 continuum. Her career has spanned almost two decades, with experience as a high school science teacher, Science Department Coordinator, New York State Master Teacher, and Assistant Principal, allowing Chrissy to bring a comprehensive perspective to instructional practices, assessment, and systemic change.
In her current role, Chrissy works closely with administrators and teachers to develop professional protocols and systems that lead to authentic learning experiences. She is passionate about shifting from traditional, teacher-led models toward student-centered environments where curiosity is the primary driver of learning and inquiry is integrated into classroom culture. By emphasizing learning and growth, Chrissy helps educators build spaces that are as emotionally supportive as they are academically rigorous, ensuring that every individual student’s potential is maximized.
A recognized leader in the New York State science community, Chrissy has been involved in a variety of state-level and regional projects and currently serves on multiple NYSED Collaboratives supporting NY Inspires initiatives. In addition to leading professional learning across New York State, she has also presented at the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) Annual Conference and serves on the planning committee for the School-Industry Cooperative Series.
Chrissy holds a Bachelor’s in Biology from Gordon College, a Master’s in Education (Secondary Biology) from SUNY Oswego, and a Certificate of Advanced Study from Stony Brook. Whether securing grants for authentic, locally relevant curricula, developing summer STEM camps, or coaching districts on research-aligned practices, she is driven by the firm belief that every educator deserves the support and partnership necessary to build their capacity in helping students maximize their fullest potential."
